Loodsmansduin
In the seventeenth century the village of Den Hoorn was closer to the sea than it is today. Approaching ships could be seen from afar from the high dune.
The dune saw good service as an observation post for the pilots of Den Hoorn, who could act as timely guides through the dangerous waters. In the period of nine holes this one was considered to be the most difficult. The green lies behind the dune (the ‘Loodsmansduin’ or pilots’ dune) and is also guarded by two deep bunkers.
Tip: Keep the ball left. That way you avoid the threatening water on the right and you get an open view of the green. Water also lies behind the green, so go easy with the approach.

This is the most difficult hole for approaching the green! Success depends on the pin position on the green and your choice of club. The temptation to play the pin is overwhelming, and is often punished by water or bunkers. Try to hit the middle of the green, between the two hills, and you’ll be sure of a two-putt position to make par or bogey. Club selection is largely about feeling with this approach, because you almost never hold the middle of the fairway and can thus never rely on the 150 metre pole! Finally, try to play the approach high up to place the ball on the green, because behind the green lies the danger! Conclusion: go for the green, not for the pin. Consider this shot as one of the finest approaches we have on the course!
Green
Fortunately this green is quite flat without steep slopes. Do your best for a two-putt: first there, then in.
