Hole 16
Hoge Berg
The highest point on Texel is the Hoge Berg, between Den Burg and Oudeschild.
This compact area is made up entirely of boulder clay pushed here from the north in the last ice age, about 10,000 years ago. It’s a residue from the ice age, the site of flint finds from 8,000 years BC, and the highest point on the island of Texel. It may be a joke to real mountain folk, but at 15.3 metres our mountain is the pride of the island.
The tee of hole 16 is the pride of the golf course: 6 metres high. There are Texel people who hardly dare to ascend so high.
Tip: Checking the distance is paramount here. Take careful note of the flag position, and take the influence of the prevailing wind into consideration.
