Learn to play golf in 9 steps!
You’ve decided you want to learn to play golf, but then you’re deluged with information. What are the rules of the game, how do you learn all those complicated tricks and what do you need? With the 9-step plan the NGF (the Dutch Golf Federation), in cooperation with the PGA Holland and the NVG, has developed a methodology enabling golfers to develop their golfing skills in 9 logical steps. The 9-step plan has been set up in such a way that you receive this information from the golf professional as and when you’re ready for it.
In the initial steps the emphasis is on learning the basic techniques, the rules of conduct, the rules of the game and of course playing on the golf course. Because that’s what it’s all about: after all, you want to learn to play golf to be able to play on the course. Then you’ll discover just why everyone enjoys the game so much, and you can play regularly with family and friends. At Golf Course De Texelse the PGA golf professionals offer the following golf training courses.
Step 1: Learn to play golf and get your course permit
During this course you’ll learn the basics of golfing and you’ll achieve the golf course permit step 1! All the basic strokes are covered, and there’s lots of practice on the Driving Range and on the golf course. In total you’ll receive 12 hours of lessons from the golf pro! The etiquette & rules are of course also covered. Group size 4 to 8 people.
Included with ‘Golf course permit – Step 1’:
- Recognised training course and lessons from a PGA professional from 9.00 a.m. – midday on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays und Thursdays
- Lesson book: ‘Step 1 Golf Course Permit’
- Unlimited use of the Par 3 courses golf set during the lessons*
- Including use of practice facilities, materials and balls during the lessons*
- NGF pass golf course permit and application NGF golf academy
- One ball card worth € 10

Step 2: Get your Handicap 54 (formerly the ‘GVB’)!
Handicap 54 is what was previously known in the Netherlands and Belgium as the ‘Golf Vaardigheids Bewijs’, or golf ability licence. Handicap 54 is the starting point for the handicap. After this course you will have a handicap and can start playing real golf. We will work on all the golf techniques, and you’ll gain plenty of practical experience to finish the course on handicap 54. In this step you should also complete your golf rules exam. Then you can do your Qualifying card to achieve your Club handicap 54. After you’ve passed the golf rules exam and obtained enough points with your Qualifying card, you’ll receive the Club handicap 54 and you’ll be able to play golf on almost all golf courses in the Netherlands. In total you’ll receive 12 hours of lessons from the golf pro! Group size 4 to 8 people.

Step 3: Advanced golf course ‘To Handicap 36’ (new)
Reduce your Club handicap 54 to EGA handicap 36 in this advanced golf course. In this course you will receive golf lessons based on step 3 of the NGF 9-Step plan. In these golf lessons you will work towards a level of handicap 36. This means that you play the holes on a golf course with PAR (3, 4 and 5) plus 2 strokes. In this step there’s also consideration of difficult situations on the golf course, around the greens, and the various possibilities you have to let the ball flight influence your score. When you achieve a handicap 36 level, you will receive an EGA handicap. This lets you participate in competitions and you can reduce (or increase) your handicap if anything goes less well. Your exact handicap will be shown on your NGF pass. This golf course consists of 15 lessons with 2 on-course lessons. Group size 4 to 8 people.
